Keeper's Log 002: Maybe It Was Never Just Me

If you read my first Keeper's Log, you've already made a decision.
You either closed the page thinking, "This woman has completely lost it."
Or...
You thought, "Yep... we're definitely going to be friends."
If you're still here, welcome.
There's something I've been thinking about.
For years I blamed myself for feeling... different. I talk a hundred miles an hour, my brain jumps from one idea to the next, and I somehow know a little bit about almost everything. My husband jokes that my conversations are like trying to watch five TV channels at once.
To be honest, I always wondered why it was hard to find people whose brains worked the same way mine did.
Then, this year, I was diagnosed with ADHD.
Suddenly so many pieces of the puzzle clicked into place.
Now I see it as one of my superpowers. My mind never really switches off. It's constantly creating, imagining and wandering into places most people never think to look.
Lately, though...
It hasn't just been ideas keeping me awake.
The Mini Monsters have completely infiltrated my sleep.
Apparently I talk about them.
A lot.
My husband recently came home from a work trip laughing because, the night before his flight, I was packing his suitcase and jokingly said,
"I hope Felix didn't overhear us talking about your flight."
He looked at me like I'd lost the plot.
I continued anyway.
"Felix has a terrible habit of undoing seatbelts on aeroplanes."
Silence.
Then he slowly zipped up his suitcase and asked...
"Who's Felix?"
Exactly.
Who's Felix?
The strange thing is... I don't remember creating Felix.
I don't remember deciding what he looked like, where he came from, or why he enjoys causing mild aviation incidents.
It's as though one day he simply... appeared.
The more Mini Monsters I document, the more this keeps happening.
They arrive with names.
Personalities.
Odd little habits.
Favourite hiding places.
Sometimes I don't feel like I'm inventing them at all.
Sometimes...
I feel like I'm just meeting them.
